A Purpose Is a Direction

“The great thing in this world is not so much where we are, but in what direction we are moving.”– Oliver Wendell Holmes

Do you know where you’re going? Or even where you’ve been? Many just keep on keepin’ on, waiting for something to happen, and hope that when it does, it’s good.

So many are searching for what they came here to do. So many struggle with relationships, jobs, finances and their health. They attend college, join a church, read books, move around the country, look for groups that share their interests and with any luck, they find themselves in the vicinity of their life purpose.

But is that the best we can hope for? Who doesn’t want to wake up every day inspired to serve a noble calling? To find ways to utilize their life purpose in the service of humanity? Most want to be on target with what they came here to do. But how to figure it out?

What if you only had to look to your hands for clues to your life purpose? Hand analysts have long known that fingerprints describe facets of the personality. Hand analyst/soul diviner Richard Unger expanded on this premise in his book Lifeprints, and he developed a system that uses fingerprints as a guide to understanding your life purpose.

Photo 17Such a study of fingerprints reveals that they are your design, your calling, your soul’s yearning. Your fingerprints are unique to you. Formed at 14-16 weeks’ gestation, your fingerprints never change and remain with you for life. Because of their uniqueness, fingerprints are used by businesses and law enforcement agencies for identification purposes. But Richard Unger went further. After immersing himself in the study of hands, he determined fingerprints in particular contain important keys to decoding our life purpose.

Life School”: Where We Love to Learn and Learn to Love

Photo 14Your Life School shows how you master a soul discipline. This is where you test drive your Life Purpose and where you get extra help learning to master your Life Lesson. These three critical factors are determined by the number of loops, whorls, arches and/or tented arches in your fingerprints. There may also be prints in the palms of your hands that can be added in. Based on various print combinations, Mr. Unger identified four “schools,”  including Service, Love, Wisdom, Peace, or various combinations of the schools.

Don’t Panic: It’s Just Your Life Lesson

Photo 25School is full of lessons, pop quizzes, midterms and finals. Our soul school is no exception. That’s why it’s vital to know your Life Lesson – also revealed in your fingerprints. When we bump up against something that challenges us or denies us the chance to live our purpose, our lesson is activated, and we can see how it operates in our lives. We tend to have a blind spot or tenderness in that area of our life that makes it hard to move forward.

Imagine how helpful it would be to finally identity those fears that block your direction. Instead of giving up on your dreams, you can simply acknowledge your lesson as an age-old companion. You and your lesson know each other well. A lesson may be an obstacle,  yes, but the challenge it presents is far from insurmountable.

In truth, our Life Lesson has much to teach us about our purpose.  Meeting our life lesson head-on helps us recognize long-established habits and escape mechanisms. The more you understand your lesson, the more you can create a masterful expression of it. The lessons correlate to each finger and, according to Mr. Unger’s system, may include:

Failure/Incompletion * Powerlessness * Money Issues * Creative Blocks * Silent/Mute * Black Sheep  * Numbness * Guilt/Inadequacy * Fear of Rejection * Intimacy Fears

These lessons describe habits and patterns that, with awareness, you can learn to manage.  You’ll gain confidence and self-assurance as you see how your lesson operates and how to work with it. You finally have conviction to move forward because you know that when your lesson shows up, so does your mastery of it.

Purpose Is Everything

“Here is the test to find whether your mission on earth is finished: If you’re alive, it isn’t.” — Richard Bach

Your Life Purpose is your soul’s calling, it’s you answering the yearning of your soul. Not only do you yearn for it, but so does the Earth, the solar system, the Milky Way galaxy and the entire universe. Yeah, it’s that big of a deal.

You express at least a semblance your life purpose whether you are aware of it or not. That’s why many people say, “Oh, of course,” when they initially learn their purpose.  They assume that everyone has their purpose or that what they feel is human nature and common to everyone. But it’s not!

Photo 23 As with your fingerprints, your life purpose is UNIQUE to you, and to you alone. If you embrace your purpose with commitment, courage and joy, your life becomes one big YES. Inspiration and helpful beings begin to show up in your life. You invite synchronicity.  You do what your soul is asking you to do.

Mr. Unger identified numerous Life Purposes that show up in the hands, including

* The Doer * Visionary Leader * Businessperson * Artist * Author /Speaker
* Master of Family & Community * Living My Passion * Mentor * Innovator
* Healer

By de-coding your Life Purpose, you will know why you feel drawn in a certain direction. It validates what you already feel and encourages your commitment to unfolding your purpose more fully. It helps you become more congruent in your career and relationships. Quite simply, it is your path to happiness and fulfillment. Why not commit to your direction now?
